02.09.11 WARNING TO PARENTS
The Hazard Police Department warns parents of the popularity of synthetic drug use by children.
Synthetic chemicals including MDPV and mephedrone are being sold across the country and marketed as “bath salts” and “plant food”. So-called “bath salts” are becoming increasingly popular and sold online, in convenience stores, and in smoke/head shops. The chemicals have a similar effect on the body as cocaine and methamphetamines. The dangerous ingredients in the salts, MDPV and mephedrone, can be snorted, smoked, and injected which produces a deadly high. They can be formed into incense, crystals, and powder. The packaging of these drugs warn of human consumption. Note that as of today these synthetic drugs are legal in Kentucky and only two states have placed a ban against these chemical compounds. Recently, a child was hospitalized due to a reaction to a form of these synthetic drugs. Inflammation of the heart has also been reported elsewhere. Below is a list of items being sold both online and in Hazard.
Bolivian Bath, Bliss, Blizzard, Blue Silk, Charge+, Cloud Nine, Ivory Snow, Ivory Wave, K2 (including Summit, Blonde, Pink, Standard, Citron, Blue, Liberty, Freedom, and other variants), Lunar Wave, Ocean Burst, Pure Ivory, Purple Wave, Raving Dragon, Rave On!, Raver Bath, Red Dove, Snow Leopard, Stardust, Tranquility Bath, Vanilla Sky, White Dove, White Night, and Zoom
(Note that this list does NOT include all items available for purchase)

01.30.11 CRIME ALERT

Over the last few weeks, the Hazard Police Department has received several complaints from persons living outside of Kentucky regarding the purchase of Steelers vs Jets AFC Championship Tickets. According to the complaints, these people have purchased what they thought to be legitimate tickets from a local resident of Hazard, KY. After contacting the seller numerous times, they find that the tickets and the address of the seller do not exist. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM. It is very common, especially during popular sporting events, for scammers to sell tickets to games when they have no intent of honoring the transaction. Below are pictures of this suspected scam (click the image to enlarge).
It is never recommended to purchase anything from anyone you do not know by using payment options such as Western Union, Money Gram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, escrow, or any option that cannot be verified regarding the recipient. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Contact your local Law Enforcement agency immediately if you think you may be the victim of a scam.
